Final Seminar Presentation (Class # 5 - Part 1)

New Apps for Learning Disabilities

Lacee, Christine & Angela

Christine pointed out the efforts that she traditionally would make in her classroom to adapt her instruction and the curriculum to support students with learning Disabilities...she continued, however, to note that many of these adaptations single out students :( who require them to be successful and are frequently not adhered to because of the large amount of work on the part of teachers and EA's. In addition, they do not promote independence (in fact, they minimize a student's ability to work independently!) on the part of the student, a critical component of supporting ALL students in our classrooms. She acknowledges and praises the iPad as a UDL mobile device that successfully accomplishes all of these while, at the same time, engaging kids with their learning!

Lacee introduced an App that she thinks will be very useful to her students...

Angela discussed a case study of a student who she is preparing to move to high school using Mobile Technology as a critical tool for his success....Overdrive is the App he uses in the photos & video she included. The student talks of how AT improves his ability to complete tasks easier...great to hear a student's perspective...thanks for sharing! Angela's school is a BYOD school and policies are clear and they experience virtually no issues with theft or misuse!

Overdrive...Angela commended this App
(as well as iBooks) for increasing
the amount of boys reading books at her school!

Angela also talked to teachers at her school....

And found out....
